Discover the Heart of Sedona through local interpretive news and discussions.
The original Sedona Backfire was formed in the mid 1990’s starting out with Sedona Neighbors sharing neighborhood information. This inspired a few neighbors to share a more to help each other with the quality-of-life items. Sharing information on a cable interpretive news show called Backfire. Which aired in the Sedona area. The channel was called Geronimo. It was built from the ground up. Backfire program was very clever TV show hosted by John Hellman and Eddie Maddock. Sedona backfire got into the weeds of Sedona politics.
The more Backfire aired the more residents got involved in what was happening in our small town. Backfire was innovative and were trailblazers back in the 90s similar to today’s YouTubers, Influencers. Definitely Sedona influencers. Geronimo’s backfire included perspectives, elected officials, residents, businesses, experts and shared public documents on the air to the community neighbors.
Backfire was a game changer. The backfire show was the only outlet that walked the neighbors through the steps to understand the functionality and the documentation of the City of Sedona.
The original backfire hosted and recorded many roundtable discussions that discussed many Sedona issues and perspectives. They had various locations of filming including business locations, city hall, and in the Geronimo studio. Sedona backfire is where I met the best mentor in the world. Eddie Maddock was an excellent writer, researcher, and the closest thing to a real mother I could ever ask for.
After Geronimo went off the air, Eddie continued to be involved at the Sedona city level. Eddie attended every single City Council meeting for years, taking notes and writing articles for the print version of Sedona Times, keeping the residents informed. Sedona Times was sold and went digital. The name was changed to “Sedona Eye”. Eddie continued to write articles that were knowledgeable, fact based, witty and enjoyable published on Sedona Eye.
This new version of Sedona Backfire started with neighbors, neighbors for neighbors. Neighbors that became friends. All with the same common concerns, the need to improve Sedona for our neighbors and improve our neighbors Quality of life. The Heart of Sedona.
Sedona Backfire website and Facebook page is dedicated to all our past, present and future neighbors and friends the true Heart of Sedona.
